Happy Women’s Day to all of the Inspiring Women at Alpha

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women for over a decade. We asked our staff to recognize and celebrate the women at work who have encouraged them, supported them, guided them, and championed their success along the way. The responses were overwhelming and we are proud to be an organization that celebrates diversity, leadership, and empowering women to reach their full potential.

These are the women of Alpha.

She’s constantly sharing that she comes from a similar community and understands first-hand the challenges that our students might face.

A positive role model for our students and showing them with your actions and kind words that they matter and that you believe in them and their potential.

Someone who talks to you as a human being first – before your role as a student or staff member – which has always made me feel valued and respected. She has been one of the leaders that sees the best in me, even when I can’t see it in myself, and that relationships, I believe has helped me grow.

An amazing, strong leader who can handle anything that comes her way. I love the way she approaches me, makes me feel like I can handle anything, and treats me as an equal collaborator everytime we work together. I also love when she comes to work in her military gear and shows all the young girls and boys at our school what a boss she is.

A hard working woman who strives for excellence in every aspect of what she does. She is a consistently strong leader who sets high expectations for students and sees the best in the people she works with. She also has encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and do things in my professional life that I have fear in, and really encourages me to grow!

An inspiring role model for all the young girls in her class by being such a consistent and safe teacher for her students everyday.

They are such kind and compassionate women who face challenges each day head on and put so much into planning their lessons and material for the year.

Ellyn and I were pregnant at the same time last year, but she was several weeks ahead of me, which meant I got to follow in her footsteps every step of the way. From inspiring me to start celebrating my news at work sooner rather than later, to modeling how to put an air-tight maternity leave coverage plan in place, to helping me put the carseat in the car for the first time, to navigating the adjustment to daycare, Ellyn has been the person I’ve been able to learn both from and with when it comes to being a mama at Alpha.

A great principal – who reinforces a safe and open culture at Alpha: Cornerstone. Her teaching experience and knowledge have impacted my life, because she gives me clear and actionable feedback on how to better my teaching while highlighting my strengths.

Tough, kind, smart, and caring. Someone who never stops fighting for our school and our scholars.

As my mentor teacher, I am able to observe her teaching techniques and engagement strategies daily. As my coach, she continuously pushes me to do my best by offering action steps to improve my own teaching. Her student rapport is incredibly strong. She ensures that students feel both challenged and safe in her classroom, providing the proper amount of rigor and support when needed. She holds her students to both a high academic and personal standard, allowing them to grow in her classroom. Yet she still actively seeks out ways to improve her teaching methods, all with a smile on her face.

Our office staff is the face to the world who deals positively with anything and everything that walks through the door.

Thank you to all the amazing women of Alpha Public Schools who work tirelessly day in and day out to support one another and ensure our scholars reach their full potential!
