Teacher Resident (2020-2021)

We are so excited to announce the inaugural cohort of the Alpha Teacher Residency at Alder GSE. The application for the Alpha Teacher Residency at Alder is now open. Teacher Residents will be paired with a highly effective teacher who serves as a mentor and adviser for their entire residency year. The priority application deadline is February 17, 2020.

We are seeking passionate individuals who embody Alpha’s mission, vision and core beliefs- teachers who believe that all students can learn, that our scholars belong in college, and that student growth is a reflection of the teacher’s practice. Alpha is recruiting a cohort of teacher residents who have the opportunity to close the achievement gap for low-income students while collaborating with a joyful team of educators committed to sending our scholars to college. This is an innovative and affordable pathway to a full-time teaching career in our community and is an exciting opportunity to earn your Master’s Degree and Teaching Credential while gaining hands on experience.

You will be joining a supportive, mentor-based program with an emphasis on social justice and equity through the Alder Graduate School of Education in partnership with Alpha Public Schools. After the year of residency, graduates receive priority hiring as Alpha teachers.

Our program is based on a residency model that combines immersive hands-on practice in the classroom with educational theory and research in both seminars and online. It takes place in partnership with K–12 schools in historically underserved communities, and 97% of our graduates obtain full-time teaching positions after completing the program.
