Carla Hulce is a former principal at Hulce Consulting Group, where she partnered with superintendents, school boards, and district leaders to strengthen leadership capacity, align curriculum and instruction, and improve outcomes for both students and adults. She brings extensive expertise in coaching, performance management, and equity-focused initiatives, along with prior experience as an affirmative action consultant for Fortune 500 companies.
Previously, Carla served as Chief Education Programs Officer at Pivot Learning, where she managed over $2M in grant projects, supervised a team of 200 retired school leaders, and launched innovative program models such as Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). At the American Institutes for Research (AIR), she led district and school improvement initiatives and contributed to federally funded research projects, including studies on teacher and leadership evaluation for the Institute of Education Sciences. She also served as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Education, conducting Universal Design for Learning (UDL) reviews to ensure accessibility and equity in educational programming.
Earlier in her career, Carla was director of teacher support in the Office of Performance Management at Chicago Public Schools. She also served as associate director of the Small Schools Workshop, helping to establish smaller learning communities and secure federal grants for curriculum and safe schools programming, and as a leadership coach for the Chicago High School Redesign Initiative.
Carla formerly produced and hosted the SchoolED with Carla Hulce podcast, featured on global platforms such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify, where she led conversations on K–12 educational disruption. She holds a BA in liberal education from Columbia College and an MEd in instructional leadership from the University of Illinois–Chicago.
