David Hoopes is the principal of Alpha: Cindy Avitia High School, where he is honored to serve a diverse and inspiring community of students, families, and educators. With more than twenty years of experience in education, he has worked as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and principal in the Bay Area as well as abroad in Brazil and Italy. These experiences shaped his belief that great schools are built on strong relationships, rigorous teaching, and a shared commitment to helping every student thrive.
David began his academic journey at Fresno State, earning a Bachelor of Arts in history and a teaching credential in social sciences. He pursued graduate studies in educational leadership at California State University, Northridge, and participated in the Principal Fellowship program at Stanford University. His career reflects a passion for equity, a dedication to instructional excellence, and a drive to ensure that schools are places where both students and educators grow.
At Alpha: Cindy Avitia, David is especially focused on expanding access to college and career opportunities. He understands the transformative power of education and believes deeply that every young person deserves the chance to pursue higher education and the doors it opens. This conviction guides his leadership, from supporting teachers in delivering high-quality instruction to creating systems that help students develop the skills, confidence, and resilience they need for the future.
Beyond his professional life, David is a proud family man who enjoys traveling, exploring national parks, and connecting with students and staff. He sees each day at CAHS as an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people.
